Tecnu® Original Outdoor Skin Cleanser

We at Tec Labs have worked tirelessly over the years to provide outdoor adventurers with products to battle the worst of itch-inducing foes! It all began in 1967 when Tecnu® Original Outdoor Skin Cleanser was first developed; created by Dr. Robert Smith, Tecnu® (meaning, “Technically New”) was originally formulated as a waterless cleanser designed to remove nuclear fall-out during the Cold War years. The product was sold in 5 gallon buckets and stored in bomb shelters in case of nuclear fallout.

However, a few years later, Dr. Smith’s wife Evelyn accidentally discovered Tecnu®’s ability to remove the rash-causing oil (urushiol) after contact with the poison plants. The Tecnu® we know now is used to cleanse urushiol from poison oak and ivy from skin, clothing, tools, and pets to help escape the dreaded rash and is available nationwide at most major retailers. We’ve since created many other products designed for the outdoor adventurer, with Calagel® Maximum Strength Anti-Itch Gel being a standout for all things outdoors.

Calagel®’s unique formula goes on clear, and stays where you put it! It even leaves behind a protective layer on tender skin. This multi-purpose product is great for poison oak and ivy, itchy bug bites, sunburns, minor cuts, and more! Unlike any other poison oak and ivy product, Calagel® addresses the five needs of a poison ivy rash: kills germs to help prevent infection, provides pain relief in addition to long lasting itch-relief, reduces swelling, and dries oozing. Throw Calagel® in your pack and you’re ready to tackle any quest!

For over 50 years, Tecnu® has been the trusted name in outdoor work and adventure, alike. We stand by the quality of our products, and will follow you down any path your adventurous soul leads you.
