Jefferson Parish is home to two state parks and a national park. The Barataria Preserve of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve’s 23,000 acres include bayous, swamps, marshes, forests, and over 200 species of birds. The visitor center highlights how the Mississippi River built Louisiana’s wetlands, and the importance of the area and the relation between the land and its people. Guided ranger tours are available. Adventure awaits in the 580-acre Bayou Segnette State Park nestled on the banks of Bayou Segnette, the park’s extensive grounds comprise the most popular state park in Louisiana.
