On the eastern side of New York’s Finger Lakes region, lie four mountains bursting with ski trails, freestyle terrains and forest runs. One boasts a 952-foot vertical drop – another offers not one, but two terrain parks among its many trails. And all four mountains are easily accessible for a week or weekend of snow sports – each located within 30 minutes of the other.
Toggenburg Ski Resort has 21 trails serviced by five lifts, and two stellar terrain parks filled with flat boxes, corrugated pipe, multiple rails, and a 20’ table sure to challenge those looking to nail a trick. In the evening, 16 trails remain open for skiers to catch a few last runs before turning in for the night. Toggenburg’s Foggy Goggle Restaurant is acclaimed as one of Central New York’s finer eateries, the perfect place to grab a post-run meal.
Song and Labrador Mountains (or Lab, as the locals say), lie just north of the City of Cortland, NY. Each feature 23 trails of varying difficulty, and lighted trails for night skiers. Song boasts a challenging mogul run for more advanced ski and snowboarders, while Lab has a glade and wood park. You can also take your pick of red or white wine – on the slopes that is. Labrador Mountain gives a shout out to the regions wines with two of its trail names.
The crowning jewel of the four Finger Lakes Mountains is indisputably Greek Peak Mountain Resort – home to 38 trails, six chair lifts, five dining options, and three terrain parks. Greek Peak is more than its slopes, the Nordic Center offers cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and the not-to-be-missed fat bikes. If you need a break from the snow sports, the Adventure Center offers four tandem zip lines and a ropes course.
At the center of these four mountains lies Historic Downtown Cortland, the perfect home basecamp during your visit. You can relax with craft beers, spirits, and of course Finger Lakes wines. The food deserves its share of praise as well – from BBQ to famous fish fries to wood-fired pizza and burgers that can be found across the city in cozy, locally-owned restaurants.
Four Mountains. Outdoor Adventure. Craft Beer. Great Food.
