With over 65,000 acres, Allegany State Park is the largest state park in New York Stateand has a multitude of outdoor activities in a year round setting.  The two sections of the Park, Red House Area and Quaker Area, offer nature and adventure tourism for those seeking to explore the great outdoors with miles of trails. Take to any of the trail systems for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, or in the winter, hit the groomed snowmobile trails.  Some of the best single-track Mountain Biking in Western NY can be found in the Red House Area at the Art Roscoe Trail System.  That has 24 miles of interconnecting loop trails and you can event rent bikes right in the park!  In the winter, those trails double for XC Skiing.  Rentals of those are also available most weekends in winter right next to the trails in the Warming Hut.  During the week XC Ski rentals can be found in the rental lodge.  

In the summer months, take a swim in the two lakes!  There’s fishing, kayaking, or just laying out in the sun on the beach.  Rentals are also available by both lakes and each beach area also features playgrounds for the kids, two of which is brand new and called a “Ninja” Playground.  They feature a low zip-line, a tall net twister and obstacle courses.  The kids sure will love that!  Bring the basketball, tennis racket, or volleyball as there are courts offered for those also.  

Whether you used to be surrounding by wilderness and not much more, or you simply want to experience the outdoors with the comforts of home, they have you covered.  Offering a total of 348 cabins, 4 group camps, 53 upscale cottages, and 3 campgrounds in the Park, it is accommodating to any size group.  The upscale cottages feature ceiling fans, linens, towels, kitchen supplies, glass-top ranges, porches and full bathrooms.  Tent, camper, and RV sites can also be rented.  

Don’t forget to stop at the Natural History Museum to see animals found in the Park, including a bobcat.  There are gift shops, a Restaurant, snack areas, and natural attractions such as Stone Tower, Thunder Rocks, and old Fire Towers.  Or spend time around the campfire, with your family, connecting to each other.
