BREATHE EASY IN HATFIELD MCCOY COUNTRY, WEST VIRGINIA

Tired of hanging around the house?  Itching for adventure? This is a great time to get away from it all in Hatfield McCoy Country.

Take a ride on the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, West Virginia’s all-terrain amusement park! With over 700 miles of mountain trails, it’s easy to avoid the crowds. Whether you ride an ATV, side-by-side, full-sized off-road vehicle, or a single-track dirt bike, there’s an adventure waiting for you 365 days a year on the HMT! Don’t own an ATV? No worries. Outfitters throughout the system offer rentals and guided tours. It’s a great way to explore this exciting sport.

Choose from among the 10 Hatfield-McCoy Trails – each named for their particular brand of excitement. No two rides are ever the same. Whether you’re looking for heart-pounding thrills or just good family fun, the Hatfield-McCoy Trails is the place for you.  Most trails connect to our historic, ATV-friendly towns. So, go ahead and explore. Ride right through the center of town – it’s not only legal but encouraged. You’ll be welcomed by local residents who are happy to offer directions or share a local legend.

You can experience a video preview of the trails at trailsheaven.com. This site contains videos of each trail and offers a first-person view of the ride, as well as descriptions of the lodging and dining venues, and special attractions that can be found in and around the trails. You can also purchase a trail permit or peruse detailed maps of the individual trails on this information-rich website.

Off the trails, there’s kayaking or fishing on our beautiful Guyandotte River. Backpackers, tent campers, and RV enthusiasts will find the perfect site for their own brand of adventure in Hatfield McCoy Country, which offers a separate set of trails—11 total—devoted to hiking or mountain biking. With woodland names like Waterfall, Wild Turkey, and Woodpecker, they are all accessible within Hatfield McCoy Country’s 4,000-acre Chief Logan State Park.

And while we’re on the subject, Chief Logan State Park, the nearby town, and the local county are all named after Chief Logan, a Mingo Native American leader who was yet another legendary player in West Virginia’s rich history. The park features a conference center and lodge with 75 modern rooms, a full-service restaurant, Wi-Fi, and an indoor pool and hot tub. Overnight guests also have access to the Recreational Center’s aquatic and fitness centers. And in the fall, the park offers elk tours curated by the park naturalist. You won’t want to miss these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. Spots book up fast, so reservations are highly recommended.

Looking for a romantic getaway? Our many secluded, freshly sanitized mountain vacation homes and cabins offer a welcome escape. And many of our branded hotels have gone the extra mile to ensure your safety and comfort with touch-free check-in, protective barriers, daily linen changes, grab-n-go breakfasts, employee PPE, and other social distancing measures in place.
